November is dedicated to recognizing native peoples, celebrating their heritage, and educating the public about native heritage, art, and traditions. National themes for 2007 are “Guiding Our Destiny with Heritage and Traditions” and “A Native Prescription: Balancing Mind, Body, and Spirit. ” In recognition of the rich heritage of Maine’s native people, the Wabanaki, this month’s library exhibit displays historical and information resources from Special Collections, books by native writers, and baskets created by Micmac and Maliseet artists. Make sure to take some time to learn more about the Wabanaki - the Maliseet, Micmac, Penobscot, and Passamaquoddy.
